Sho Fu En (Pine Wind Garden)

Located within the Torrance Cultural Arts Center, Sho Fu En (Pine Wind Garden) is an example of a civic Japanese garden, where the public can relax, enjoy its beauty, and use the venue for events and weddings. Dedicated in 1991, the 13,000-square-foot garden was conceived as a "town square."

Although confined to a courtyard, the garden has many of the features of a traditional Japanese stroll garden. There are two waterfalls, walking paths covered with a variety of stepping stones, and other hardscape features such as lanterns and rock formations. There is also a small amphitheater at the west end that can accommodate up to 60 people.

The koi pond is an oasis located at the east end of the garden and offers visitors a chance to sit, relax, and admire the tranquil koi that live in the pond.

Overall, the garden is an excellent example of a civic-oriented Japanese garden. Its authentic features provide a good introduction to Japanese garden elements, and it offers plenty of opportunities for people to relax and appreciate the beauty of Japanese gardens.
