Tacoma Chinese Reconciliation Park

I was on the way to visiting yet another Japanese garden in Washington state, when I passed the following public park in Tacoma. I was intrigued by what I saw, so I stopped to take a look. Turns out it is a significant Chinese reconciliation garden aimed at righting a wrong to the Chinese community. At that time, in 1885, the Chinese population was forcibly expelled from Tacoma.

A beautiful park aimed at correcting a historical wrong, the park, to me, takes on even more significance today as we watch Americans, once again, embrace intolerance out of fear and ignorance. Although I loved the park, lets hope we never have to build another reconciliation park.
